This is a collaborative project between the Tanzanian National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and MAP. The study aims to analyse data from the newly surveillance initiative, the school malaria parasitaemia survey (SMPS), to assess in space and time, the care seeking, management of malaria infections in schoolchildren and the contribution and impact of malaria on school absenteeism. The project contributes to the MAP agenda of building long term collaboration with malaria stakeholders residing in endemic countries, strengthening spatial modelling skills and use of surveillance data for decision making.
The information generated from this project may be utilized by the health and education departments including the NMCP to implement targeted and appropriate interventions to reduce malaria burden and to improve the development outcomes in schoolchildren.
